"Light From Within" brings together photographs by the American Todd Hido: very cinematographic images that offer the image of suburban areas to the imagination of the viewer, and paint a grim picture of the planet subjected to climate change. To this are added photographs of his series Houses at Night and House Hunting.
Todd Hido's practice is perfectly summed up by the title of the series House Hunting: the photographer indeed indulges in a real artistic and physical wandering across the United States to capture the intimate mysteries of the country, and explore the tragic issue of changing landscapes. If the subject of the Houses at Night series is clear from its title - Todd Hido lists houses seen at night - the unique treatment of the image gives it a less realistic dimension.

Todd Hido’s photographs are characterized by the shades and colors of American suburbs and create elements of aesthetics and subjectivity, a strange atmosphere conducive to the imagination. If they are not staged, these images often captured at night or at dusk, are composed and reveal by their framing, their work on light and chromatic tones, marked by a cinematographic approach.
The Bright Black World series, published in 2018, is the first work by Todd Hido produced outside the United States: exploring the desolate landscapes of northern Europe, the artist deploys another psychological dimension and offers another interpretation. Here it is the environmental question that dominates, through images always divided between light and shadow, the sublime and the disturbing, which shows a planet with a post-apocalyptic look to it.
